Wolf Biermann is a German poet, singer-songwriter and political activist born in 1936 in Hamburg. He spent much of his life in East Germany, from which he was expatriated in 1976 after criticising the communist regime. His work blends poetry with protest song, and the album „Chausseestraße 131" is among his best-known recordings.
