Yazoo are an English synth-pop duo from Basildon, Essex, formed in late 1981 by vocalist Alison Moyet and keyboardist Vince Clarke, who had just left Depeche Mode. In barely 18 months they released two albums - 'Upstairs at Eric's' (1982) and 'You and Me Both' (1983, UK #1) - and scored a string of Top 5 UK hits before splitting in 1983. Their sound, built on Clarke's minimalist synth lines and Moyet's raw, soulful voice, helped shape early synth-pop and left a lasting mark on electronic dance music. After the break-up, Clarke went on to co-found Erasure while Moyet built a long solo career; the pair reunited briefly for a world tour in 2008.
