Der Freischütz is a romantic opera by Carl Maria von Weber, first performed in Berlin in 1821. The libretto was written by Friedrich Kind based on a folk legend. The opera tells the story of the huntsman Max, who makes a pact with the devil to obtain magic bullets. It is regarded as a founding work of German romantic opera.
