Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–1975) was a Soviet composer and pianist, one of the most significant musical voices of the 20th century. His output spans symphonies, string quartets, operas, and chamber works. He is particularly celebrated for his 15 symphonies and 15 string quartets, which combine dramatic intensity with profound lyricism.
