George Frideric Handel was a German-British Baroque composer born in 1685 in Halle. He is celebrated for his operas, oratorios, and orchestral works. His most famous composition, the oratorio Messiah, is among the most frequently performed works in classical music. In his honour, the annual Händel-Festspiele festival is held in his birthplace of Halle.
