Il trovatore

About

Il trovatore is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi, first performed in Rome in 1853. The libretto was written by Salvadore Cammarano based on a Spanish play. Set in medieval Spain, it tells the story of the rivalry between Count di Luna and the troubadour Manrico, intertwined with the mysterious past of the gypsy Azucena. The aria "Di quella pira" is among its most celebrated moments.
