Ivo Pogorelich is a Croatian pianist born in 1958 in Belgrade. He rose to international prominence after his controversial elimination from the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1980, which prompted Martha Argerich to resign from the jury in protest. He is known for his highly individual and unconventional interpretations of the classical piano repertoire.
