Mascha Kaléko (1907–1975) was a German-language poet of Jewish origin, celebrated for her lyrical, ironic and melancholic verses about everyday life. She began her career in the Weimar Republic and, after the Nazi rise to power, emigrated first to the United States and later to Israel. Her debut collection Das lyrische Stenogrammheft (1933) established her as a distinctive voice of Berlin modernism.
