Urbanist Arkady Gershman in Düsseldorf: lecture "What is a city for people?"

Modern European cities are often associated with prosperity and well-kept facades - but beneath the polished surface lie familiar urban planning problems. Even celebrated examples of good city design raise questions among specialists: Düsseldorf's famous Rhine promenade, where a busy highway was buried in an underground tunnel, is less straightforward than it appears. Expensive projects frequently just paper over mistakes rather than fix them.

Arkady Gershman - one of the best-known popularizers of urbanism in the Russian-speaking world - comes to Düsseldorf with his lecture "What is a city for people?". He will explain how to tell genuinely human-friendly urban environments apart from visually impressive but superficial solutions.
