ME AND MR CASH - A theatre evening with songs by Johnny Cash and June Carter
February 1968. Johnny Cash and his band are performing another sold-out show, this time in a small Canadian town. With them is the spirited June Carter, a member of the legendary Carter family. After the final chords of their shared hit "Jackson", Johnny asks the thousands of fans: "Will you marry me, June?" With spontaneity and unmatched wit, she sidesteps the question, turning the moment into something comic as if it were a rehearsed bit. But Johnny won't let it go - not this time: after 31 proposals, June finally answers him with "Yes!" that evening.
Actress Lucie Mackert and actor Roman Roth, together with musician Thomas Maos, immerse themselves in the Carter-Cash world. They illuminate two sides of love in show business and reveal many facets of both main characters. They also bring important companions and family members back to life, telling their story from countless perspectives. Through new arrangements of well-known country classics, the three performers present a contemporary view of this piece of musical history while evoking times long past.
