Every day we say goodbye to something: certainties, phases of life, illusions, people - sometimes knowingly, sometimes not. In her new book "Abschied leben" (Rowohlt), journalist and author Gabriele von Arnim ("Das Leben ist ein vorübergehender Zustand", "Der Trost der Schönheit") writes about loss and transition, about the burdens of the present and the art of enduring one's own vulnerability. She weaves personal experience together with social observation and existential reflection into what Die Zeit called "a poetic and life-wise essay" - and explores why letting go can also bring comfort.
