Julia Hülsmann Oktett

Julia Hülsmann ranks among the most distinguished European jazz musicians. Her piano playing is defined by a rare affinity for the human voice and a deep connection to poetry and song. For this project she has assembled an exceptional, internationally cast ensemble - talents from Norway, Angola, France and Germany - that bridges classical music, jazz and pop.

When these remarkable voices come together to perform Hülsmann's music, the result is a vivid, gripping sound. Each musician brings something personal to the stage, yielding fresh interpretations of songs by Alanis Morissette, Ani DiFranco, Archive and Feist. The instrumentation is particularly striking: a classical piano trio (piano, violin and cello) sits alongside a traditional jazz trio (piano, bass and drums).
