Who is figure humaine?
figure humaine is a young professional chamber choir dedicated to the cultivation and promotion of German-French choral and song repertoire from the 19th to the 21st century. Founded in 2016, the ensemble performs vocal music at the highest level and has quickly built a reputation for its distinctive choral sound and interpretations under the direction of Prof. Denis Rouger.
As "Professeur agrégé" at the Université Paris-Sorbonne, Rouger leads the Chœur de Paris-Sorbonne and has taught choral conducting there for 20 years. From 1993 to 2003 he served as choirmaster at Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral and at La Madeleine, which appointed him honorary Kapellmeister in 2006.
In April 2011, Denis Rouger accepted a professorship in choral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst (HMDK) Stuttgart. The HMDK Stuttgart chamber choir he founded in autumn 2011 won first prize at the International Choral Competition in Mosbach (Germany) in 2014.
In September 2024 he additionally took up a professorship in choral conducting at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva.
