The Rheingans Sisters (England) - Urban British Avantgarde Folk Duo from Sheffield

Rowan Rheingans (violin, banjo, tambourine, vocals) and Anna Rheingans (violin, tambourine, vocals) grew up in a musical family in Derbyshire - their father was a violin maker, their mother organized folk festivals. Rowan studied traditional violin playing in Sweden and Norway; she also plays in the folk group Coven and in the folk vocal trio Lady Maisery. Anna works as a musician, composer, and songwriter, and is also a textile designer. Both have received numerous awards, including the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award.

As a duo, they sing in English and French, drawing inspiration from traditional folk music of Britain, France, Scandinavia, and America. In 2019, they premiered the musical "Dispatches on the Red Dress" and won the Edinburgh Fringe First Award for it. Their fifth album "Start Close" (2024) ranked second in the "Guardian's" "Folk Albums of the Year" selection.

The concert is part of the "Klangkosmos Weltmusik in NRW" series.
