MEIN JAHR OHNE UDO JÜRGENS - Season Opener
TD Berlin, Germany

"...and she suddenly said out of nowhere: 'It's this radical emotionality.' She said it after about an hour of the concert and had thereby found the Udo Jürgens formula. Udo Jürgens as a fully lived present. The great Yes." Andreas Maier, "Mein Jahr ohne Udo Jürgens"
Udo Jürgens died in 2014 at the age of 80. Author Andreas Maier took this as the starting point for a wry, humorous reflection in column form: from "Merci Chérie" to "Es wird Nacht, Señorita", he tries to fathom what gap Jürgens' death left behind - and along the way sketches a portrait of an entire generation.
Patrick Wengenroth hosts as compere, guiding the audience through a lively staged reading from the book and a concert performance about the Udo Jürgens phenomenon - in a tuxedo and a white terry bathrobe, with piano and voice. Matze Kloppe provides the musical accompaniment, Georg Scharegg the theatrical staging: a trio from the founding days of TD Berlin, reuniting on stage after a long absence.
While nostalgia formats like "Udo Jürgens forever" and "Die Udo Jürgens Story" fill concert halls across the country, the trio kicks off the season with an ad-hoc show format that has aged beautifully over more than ten years - in the intimate setting of TD.
