"When the court spent half a year in Plesse, a Silesian estate of the Promnitz family, I came to know Polish and Hanakian music there, as well as in Krakow, in its true, barbaric beauty" - so wrote Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) in an autobiographical note in 1705. The impressions he gathered east of the Elbe found their way into his compositions time and again. The polonaise in particular recurs throughout his work: an ancient dance that enjoyed a great flourishing in the 18th century.
The EUBO performs works from those Eastern European sound worlds that Telemann made his own with such vivid imagination.
