World premiere

"A Piece of History" is both satire and documentary theatre. At the centre sits the so-called most powerful man in the world at his desk - standing in for all the countless powerful men of this world. With his signature he seals decrees, ordinances, laws, treaties; the far-reaching consequences literally pass him by. In his world, men are loud and potent, women are silent and dutifully serve, there are no allies - he always comes first.

In his and our world, the military budget vastly exceeds resources for human rights, species protection, and climate action. Love Trumps Hate? The discussion goes nowhere, the Bible as advisor is outdated, Voltaire as a corrective has had its day. The only glimmer of common sense in the panorama of actual madness seems to be a police officer's views on the G20 summit in Hamburg. Where are we here anyway??

We are in 2017 - but time has come off its hinges and runs backwards. The dead awaken to life, and the protagonists must hold on tight so they don't accidentally end up in the wrong century. Because regression is the new progress. And that, as we know, cannot be stopped. Or can it?

Author and director Antje Schupp transforms political events that washed onto her desk through virtual channels in 2017 into bitterly comic scenes - biting, pointed, full of desperate humour. Students from the acting, puppet theatre, and opera school programmes sing, perform, and animate: Carolina Eicker, Josepha Flemming, Rebecca Herter, Elio Jäger, Mali Jafari, Daniel Johnson, Clara Lorenz, Johannes Frederik Pisall, Leontin Salihi, Jakob Saltner, Amelie Sarich, Til Schumeier, WenBo Shuai, Lilly Sorgenfrey, Mara Suter, and Zina Strunz.

Direction: Antje Schupp / Set and costumes: Christoph Rufer / Music: Arezou Rezaei

Performances on 23 October and 28 November will include DGS interpretation (German Sign Language).
