This play had its premiere at the Theaterhaus on 15 June 2004, with Stephan Moos in the lead role. Now, 16 years later and after a revised version of the text, Stephan Moos returns to the stage to once again showcase his remarkable range as an actor. He plays a son visiting his mother in a care home. Their weekly meetings, with their familiar rituals, give way to an intense and tender dialogue, tinged with quiet humour and a melancholic mood. What makes the drama so striking is that a single actor portrays both mother and son. First performed in Amsterdam in 1981, the play has lost none of its relevance. The helplessness of the elderly, their dependence on family, a growing reluctance to go on living, and the controversy around hastening the end of life - these themes have only grown more urgent since the play was written, and the COVID-19 pandemic has given them a new, pressing immediacy.
