Lena Johannson - Reading - Clara and Rilke - A Love Between Words and Colors

In her biographical novel Clara and Rilke - A Love Between Words and Colors, Lena Johannson tells the story of a romantic yet destructive love affair. She reads from it at Friedenskirche in Krefeld.

When Rainer Maria Rilke first sees the young sculptor Clara Westhoff, he is captivated - by her beauty, her determination, her passion for art. Clara, in turn, succumbs to the magic of his poetry, against her better judgment: Rilke is known for his restlessness and is also courting Clara's friend, painter Paula Becker. Yet an intense love begins between them, defying all convention.

For the reading, Johannson has partnered with the Rilke Project by Schönherz & Fleer. In addition to excerpts from the novel, listeners will hear interpreted and set-to-music works by Rainer Maria Rilke - performed by Ben Becker, Iris Berben, and Otto Sander.
