Kim is fifteen and her life is miserable. Her mother, stepfather, school and stepbrother are all awful. Then comes an "accident", and her family ships her off for the summer holidays to the "distinguished Mr. Papen" - her biological father, whom she has never met. Not once. Now they face six weeks together in a factory hall in the Ruhr region, which he shares with a vast collection of hideous awnings. It takes a while before she joins him on a sales tour, helps him land what feels like his first real success, and the two of them start to talk. About why they could never meet before. About why she is with him now. And suddenly life looks different.

JAN WEILER was born in 1967 in Düsseldorf and spent eleven years at Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazin in various roles, the last five as editor-in-chief. Since 2005 he has been a freelance writer, working mainly on novels, columns, radio plays and screenplays. He also appears as a narrator on his own CDs and on reading tours across Germany.
