The Talking Ship - interactive, creative programme for the whole family — Theaterschiff Potsdam, Potsdam

"The Talking Ship" is an interactive family programme aboard the Theaterschiff on the Tiefer See in Potsdam. It combines a hands-on tour of the ship - folding paper boats and learning to tie knots - with an audio play for children.

At the heart of the story is Hanna, a roach (a small freshwater fish) that no angler ever bothers with. For years she has lived next to the old vessel "Sturmvogel", moored at the jetty on the Tiefer See - without the two ever having met. When Hanna picks up strange sounds and starts listening more carefully, she makes some remarkable discoveries. The story is an animal fable about the effects of climate change on the Tiefer See and the power of solidarity.

After the ship tour, everyone heads below deck: the children settle into a cushion landscape, listen to the audio play, and can colour in sheets featuring the animals from the story. All the animal voices were performed by actress and audiobook narrator Cathlen Gawlich - known as the voice of Sandy Cheeks in "SpongeBob SquarePants" and Mama Mouse in "Leo Lausemaus".
