Political scientists have been publishing book after book for years: our democracy is in trouble. It is weakening, showing signs of decay, or simply coming to an end. No democracy lasts forever. Is democracy facing the same fate as cabaret? Is it an outdated model, or are we already living in a post-democracy?

Pessimism is abundant. What can we do? Our federal owl at Bellevue Castle doesn't know either, but is ready to help illuminate dark dystopias: "We find the path to the future only in light." The audience sits in darkness. The stage shines brightly. The show can begin.

Incidentally: pessimism too is rooted in a lack of information.
