The word "hieroglyphs" translates roughly as "sacred carvings" - something pressed into a material to leave a mark. What makes them fascinating: hieroglyphs depict things we think we can read a specific meaning into, even though we know they don't quite work that way. They belong to a writing system that remains foreign to us.

At this zwischen/ding, we roam the city as archaeologists of the present, uncovering signs that inscribe themselves into our daily field of vision - noticed or not.
