At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, an Asian neuroscientist finds himself stranded on the campus of Marburg University. In isolation, inspired by an ancient ginkgo tree in the botanical garden, he turns his attention to plant communication.

His story intertwines with two other lives witnessed by the same tree: in the early 20th century, a botany student fought against patriarchal prejudice; in the 1970s, a young man met a fellow student passionate about plant communication. The film is marked by thoughtful visual language and a quiet sense of humor.
