Violinist Antje Weithaas, recently named "Instrumentalist of the Year 2025" at the Opus Klassik awards, returns to Hitzacker. She is joined by her long-standing trio partners Marie-Elisabeth Hecker and Martin Helmchen, who last appeared here in 2012.
The programme places Haydn's trio in the remote, five-flat key of E-flat minor at the centre of a journey through Dvořák's Bohemian Dumky songs and dances, the only piano trio by centenary composer György Kurtág - who turned 100 on 19 February this year - and Schubert's expansive E-flat major Trio op. 100. Haydn's music becomes the link between styles that could hardly seem more different, yet speak to one another with remarkable ease.
