Ouzo for One - A Greek Comedy
Kulturinsel Borkum, Germany
19 €
"Costa" invites you into his Greek restaurant - moving effortlessly between stand-up comedy, a song evening, and classic comedy, with the syrtaki as the connecting step. Although only one actor stands on stage, you get to know the taverna guests and their quirks - quite unlike Costa himself, who needs an ouzo after every single customer.
Not everything runs as smoothly as Costa's wife would like from her kitchen. Were it not for the restaurant inspectors and the Italian competition across the street, things would be only half as bad.
Vasilios Zavrakis in "Ouzo for One" doesn't just play Costa - he gives every character their own voice, facial expression, and gestures. Along the way he shows off his dexterity on the bouzouki (Greek long-necked lute) and guitar. Zavrakis grew up in a Greek restaurant: his parents ran a taverna in Hamburg. After drama school and a few years on stage, the show was, as he explains, the logical conclusion - "Where else could I better bring together my passions for music, acting, and ouzo... I mean, Greek food?"
Yiamas!
