Kitty, Daisy & Lewis - ZMF Freiburg

Kitty, Daisy and Lewis Durham are three siblings from the London neighbourhood of Kentish Town whose music takes audiences on a journey back in time. Blending swing, blues, country, bluegrass and rock'n'roll, the trio and their band are heading to Germany for eight concerts to perform their long-awaited new album live - nine years in the making.

Since their self-titled debut in 2008, Kitty, Daisy & Lewis have moved effortlessly between musical eras. Their heroes - shaped by the music that filled their childhood home - include Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone, Ray Charles, Sam Cooke and Rufus Thomas. Their albums, recorded exclusively on period equipment, feature both reinterpretations of those classics and original compositions by the siblings. All three are multi-instrumentalists, drawing on double bass, trombone, accordion and harmonica to build a rich, varied sound.

After the international success of their debut, the trio followed up with "Smoking In Heaven" (2011), "The Third" (2015) and "Superscope" (2017). To ensure their distinctive retro sound comes out exactly as they envision it, Lewis Durham - the middle sibling - designed and built the Durham Sound Studio in the London neighbourhood of Camden. The equipment looks like it belongs in a museum, but its quality has earned the studio a serious reputation. Since 2011, Lewis has produced not only the band's own records there, but also work for other artists.
