Sweet Soul Music Revue - ZMF Freiburg
Zelt-Musik-Festival Freiburg, Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany
Nearly 20 years of pure soul: the SWEET SOUL MUSIC REVUE.
In 2009, an enthusiastic crowd packed out the Mannheimer Capitol for the debut of a show built entirely around soul music: the SWEET SOUL MUSIC REVUE. The creators bring more than 50 years of combined experience in soul to a production that has been touring European stages for almost two decades.
From the very start, the show has paid tribute to the giants of soul - Otis Redding, James Brown, The Temptations, The Supremes, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Gladys Knight, Sam Cooke, The Four Tops, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Etta James, and the founding father of soul, Ray Charles - making the hearts of black-music fans beat a little faster. The SWEET SOUL MUSIC REVUE has been a consistent success story: since its premiere it has toured regularly across Germany and beyond, playing to sold-out houses and earning glowing press reviews. In total, the show has been performed live more than 500 times. The Soul Train keeps rolling, and in 2026 it will stop at numerous stages at home and abroad. The programme is a tribute to the soul labels Motown, Stax and Atlantic - a two-hour, high-energy mix of feeling, rhythm, passion and sheer joy - pure soul!
The SWEET SOUL MUSIC REVUE takes audiences on an authentic musical journey "Down Funky Street, USA" through the 1960s and 70s. Alongside soul classics such as "Respect", "Soul Man", "It's a Man's World", "Papa was a Rolling Stone", "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "Sitting on the Dock of the Bay", the show delivers many more gems from the Sixties and Seventies soul era. The REVUE band - ten top-flight musicians with a four-part brass section - brings soul music to life in its original, authentic lineup.
