ALL DAY I DREAM ABOUT SOCCER (ADIDAS) - German Premiere
Theater Rampe, Stuttgart, Germany
Ahilan Ratnamohan recalls that as a child, it was not the sport itself that drew him to the "Beautiful Game," but the colorful jerseys of the players. The first World Cup he witnessed burned into his memory not because of a trophy or a goal, but because of Roberto Baggio's braided ponytail. To this day, he remembers the jerseys of every team in his U7 league by heart.
In ALL DAY I DREAM ABOUT SOCCER (ADIDAS), Ahilan, drawing on his experience with soccer and dance training, explores this mystical connection to the game - a connection he gradually distanced himself from as he began to play more seriously. He traces how fashion in soccer has changed over the past 30 years: from the jerseys that originally drew him to the sport, through the various fashion influences that shaped his relationship to soccer, to their impact on culture as a whole.
He focuses on fabrics and specific ways of wearing clothes, asking what influence they have on movements in soccer - both literally and figuratively. For 15 years, "soccer dance" has shaped his choreographic work; in this piece, he seeks new ways to embody the typically intense and efficient soccer movements - and through these movements to understand the conditions of his own connection to the game.
