All das Schöne - Revival

A solo with audience about everything that makes life worth living
By Duncan Macmillan - German translation by Corinna Brocher
How does a child respond to their mother's suicide attempt? They write her a list of everything beautiful in the world: 1. ice cream, 2. water fights, 3. being allowed to stay up later than usual and watch TV. Instinctively, it's about the small things that make life worth living. But will the mother actually read the list? And what happens when you have to accept that depression doesn't simply go away?
The list grows with the child: 4997. Eventually they are grown up, studying, falling in love, living through another of their mother's suicide attempts - and the list is approaching a million: 999,998. Songs that don't fit the moment. "All das Schöne" in the world - can it ever really be grasped?
Duncan Macmillan has written a life-affirming monologue about a deadly serious subject. By drawing the audience into the search for everything that can make a moment wonderful, Macmillan creates - without a trace of sentimentality - a space for shared joy.
A co-production taken over from Landestheater Tübingen.
