GIANT ROOKS - Open Air 2026

Giant Rooks are one of the most talked-about acts on the indie scene. The five musicians from Hamm in North Rhine-Westphalia don't just make music - they craft artistic sounds drawing on influences from hip-hop to electronica. They describe their own style as art-pop, and in doing so follow in the footsteps of acts like Alt-J.

Founded in 2014, Giant Rooks already have a remarkable story behind them. The band was started by vocalist, guitarist and percussionist Frederik Rabe and his cousin, guitarist Finn Schwieters. They were soon joined by Jonathan Wischniowski on piano and synthesizer, then drummer Finn Thomas, and in early 2015 Luca Göttner completed the lineup on bass. From the very beginning, the band decided to sing in English.

Success came quickly - by 2017 they were already headlining their own tour. Their music featured in the 2019 German crime drama "Tatort" episode "Querschläger", and in August 2020 their debut LP "Rookery" was released. Their most recent album, "How Have You Been" (2024), entered the German charts straight at number 1, proving that their sound has long since reached beyond national borders. After the subsequent tour of the same name, the five retreated into creative work in 2025. In September they played two exclusive headline shows in Germany - sold-out homecoming concerts in their native Hamm, where they shared the stage with 20,000 fans, friends and family, moving between melancholy and euphoria with an energy that has long outgrown their small Westphalian hometown.
