Blühende Landschaften - A Song Evening on German Reunification - KULTURZEIT 2026/27
Theater Ravensburg, Germany
"Blühende Landschaften" - blooming landscapes - was the promise Chancellor Helmut Kohl made to East Germans in 1990. There was a spirit of change in the air, but also doubt about whether the reconstruction of the East would succeed. Even in 1998, the CDU used this phrase as a campaign slogan. Yet German reunification proved far more complicated than expected.
Many East Germans lost their jobs and had to reorient themselves professionally and socially. The transition to a different social order was difficult. Deindustrialization and depopulation characterized the new federal states, while little changed in the West.
This song evening captures these varied moods through short scenes, personal memories, and songs by Konstantin Wecker, Die Fantastischen Vier, Die Ärzte, Herbert Grönemeyer, Die Prinzen, Georg Ringsgwandl, and others. On stage, people speak, argue - and above all, sing. The four performers believe that the process of German unity continues even after 35 years, and it always depends on the perspective from which you look.
