In "Unwanted Daughters" (Hanser), Miriam Carbe traces the lives of her great-grandmother, grandmother and mother - all the way to herself. Drawing on diaries, personal memories and literary imagination, she crafts an intimate family novel that asks how National Socialism, complicity, silence and racism ripple across generations. Carbe, an editor at ARTE, makes her debut with a book about origins, responsibility and memory - a family story that, in the words of Deutschlandfunk Kultur, "makes the great sweep of history tellable".
