Mogadischu - Reading with Sandra Hoffmann
Literaturhaus München, Munich, Germany
8 €
Hosted by: Judith Heitkamp
In 1977, the name of the Somali capital became a cipher for the German Autumn. While the "Landshut" is hijacked, a mother and her young son vanish without a trace during a holiday in Italy - leaving behind the father and eleven-year-old Fritzi, who searches for an explanation for the inexplicable. Munich author Sandra Hoffmann weaves family history and contemporary history together in "Mogadischu" (Berlin Verlag), a novel about memory, loss, and what goes unspoken across generations. Hoffmann is also known for "Paula" and "Was ihm fehlen wird, wenn er tot ist".
"What enchants me about this novel is that it pulls me in completely - into the emotional world of the characters too. That kind of intensity is rare." (Lena Gorelik)
