The Measurement of the World
Figurentheater Mottenkäfig, Pforzheim, Germany
A co-production by Theater Fiesemadände and TheaterKorona - for young people and adults from age 14 (90 minutes, with intermission).
Toward the end of the 18th century, two young Germans set out to measure the world. Alexander von Humboldt fights his way through jungle and steppe, navigates the Orinoco, tests poisons on himself, counts lice on indigenous peoples, crawls into holes in the earth, and climbs volcanoes. Mathematician and astronomer Carl Friedrich Gauss prefers to stay at home - and proves in Göttingen that space itself curves. Now old, famous, and somewhat eccentric, the two meet in Berlin in 1828.
The play tells the story of these two scientists' lives - freely adapted from Daniel Kehlmann's novel. Performance rights: Rowohlt Theaterverlag, Reinbek bei Hamburg.
