Tankerkönig - How Would Johnny Cash Play Hannes Wader?
Kulturinsel Borkum, Germany
The new band TANKERKÖNIG dedicates itself to the songs of German singer-songwriters - especially Hannes Wader and Reinhard Mey, but also other musical poets. Campino from Die Toten Hosen once called Hannes Wader the "Johnny Cash of Germany." That is precisely the starting point: with TANKERKÖNIG, these songs sound different - multi-voiced, full of musical surprises, always true to the lyrics.
Staying out of things was never the style of these musicians. Poetic, rebellious, sharp-tongued, ironic, romantic - and always to the point. Many of their songs have gained edge over the years, while others remain documents of their time. What unites them: conviction, straight talk, and crystal-clear messages.
"It is time to bring the songs of these great composers and musicians back to the fore and give them a stage. We need them," say the musicians of TANKERKÖNIG.
