Eleanor McEvoy (IRL) - star of the contemporary Irish folk scene

Long a household name in Ireland, Eleanor McEvoy has in recent years won over German audiences too - with a solo stage performance that few would expect from a single artist. She plays several instruments, has a voice that sticks from the very first note, and writes lyrics that get under your skin.

She first came to wider attention as a member of the Mary Black Band and as the writer of "Only A Woman's Heart" - one of the best-known songs in contemporary Irish folk history, still a fixture of her live sets today. Reducing her to that one song would be doing her a disservice, though: she has since released 15 albums and built an extensive body of original contemporary folk songs.
