What does the body carry when words run out?

The Net We Carry - Wavu Tuliobeba is a multidisciplinary dance performance about memory, loss, and what lives on inside us. Through movement, breath, and silence, experiences surface that never fully disappeared - traces of joy, wounds, and unspoken pain. What can be neither held nor released returns: as a scream, as rage, as an echo in the body.

On stage, dance, voices, text, colour, and music weave together into a dense fabric. A large net hangs above the performers - an image of what simultaneously connects and weighs us down. The bodies tell stories for which there are no words, making memory tangible as something shared, alive, and deeply physical.

Tadhi Alawi is a Tanzanian artist, choreographer, and director of the Nantea Dance Company. His visually striking works explore Tanzanian social life and colonial history. As a curator he leads platforms including Kiota cha Dansi (A Nest of Dance) and collaborated with the Goethe-Institut in 2024 on the Haba na Haba International Dance Festival. In 2022 he received an international grant from artlink.ch; his dance films have aired on BBC News.

Samwel Japhet is a Tanzanian dance artist, choreographer, and co-founder of the Nantea Dance Company. After a childhood marked by homelessness and abuse, he uses the body to reflect on social and political realities. In 2021 he received the Dutch Prince Claus Seed Award and until 2022 led UMOJA, an artistic exchange programme between East Africa and Europe.
