35 proposals for renewed trust in democracy

Confidence in the state's ability to act is waning - and with it, confidence in democracy itself. Manager and publisher Julia Jäkel calls for sweeping reforms in Germany: Together with Thomas de Maizière, Peer Steinbrück, and Andreas Voßkuhle, she presents concrete proposals for administration, education, and democracy in "Initiative for a Capable State" (Herder 2025).

Jäkel discusses her vision of democratic renewal with Patrick Cramer, president of the Max Planck Society.
