Book signing: "Wo die Toten sprechen"

Jaroslav Rudiš signs his new book "Wo die Toten sprechen" at Hugendubel bookshop in Frankfurt. Attendance is free; advance registration is recommended.

In the novel, Lorenzo, Caspar and Miss Detroit travel through Central European cemeteries in an old Saab - three friends somewhere between midlife and weariness of life. Lorenzo is trying to write a doctoral thesis on dead European poets, Miss Detroit dreams of becoming a cemetery botanist, and the near-blind Caspar thinks of his father in the Bohemian Paradise, whose deceased friends still haunt his local pub. When the three get ahead of a group of looting Reichsbürger at a Berlin cemetery and make off with the bones of a Nazi war criminal, an absurd chase begins along the borders of Central Europe.

Jaroslav Rudiš, born in 1972, is a writer, playwright and musician. He studied German and history in Liberec, Zurich and Berlin, and has worked as a teacher and journalist, among other things. His novels "Grand Hotel", "Die Stille in Prag", "Vom Ende des Punks in Helsinki", "Nationalstraße" and "Winterbergs letzte Reise" were published by Luchterhand Literaturverlag; "Der Himmel unter Berlin" appeared at btb. Piper Verlag published his "Gebrauchsanweisung fürs Zugreisen" and "Gebrauchsanweisung für Bier". "Winterbergs letzte Reise" - his first novel written in German - was nominated for the Leipzig Book Fair Prize in 2019. Rudiš has also received the Mörike Prize, the Prize of the Literary Houses and the Chamisso Prize/Hellerau. His most recent publication is the story "Weihnachten in Prag", illustrated by Jaromír 99, from Luchterhand. He lives in Berlin and in Jičín in the Bohemian Paradise.
