Compagnie Käfig

Direction and choreography: Mourad Merzouki / Music: Armand Amar / Lighting: Yoann Tivoli / Duration approximately 70 minutes (no intermission)

French-Algerian choreographer Mourad Merzouki has rooted his work in hip-hop while pursuing a multidisciplinary approach for many years. Zéphyr combines contemporary dance and hip-hop with a commissioned composition by Armand Amar and precise lighting design by Yoann Tivoli.

The title references Zéphyr - the warm westerly wind of the northern hemisphere. The piece begins quietly: two dancers, a small fan, a beam of light. Then an epic journey unfolds, in which Merzouki and the ten dancers of Compagnie Käfig show people encountering the forces of nature in their full power.

"Absolutely incredible, it is overwhelming!" (France 2, Télématin)

"This is the great strength of Mourad Merzouki: every spectator can recognize themselves and, faced with the images he creates in his ballets, ask themselves their own questions." (Le Figaro)
