Film series "Seeing History" - for International Day Against Fascism

This historical drama is based on the true story of Franz Jägerstätter (1907-1943), an Austrian farmer and conscientious objector. After the Nazi annexation of Austria, he lives with his wife Fani and three young daughters in St. Radegund, a small village in Upper Austria. He openly displays his rejection of Nazi ideology in the community. When he is conscripted in 1943, the devout Catholic refuses on grounds of conscience to swear an oath to Adolf Hitler - by then, he and his family have become outcasts in the village. Jägerstätter is arrested, taken to Berlin, and tried before the Reich War Court on charges of "undermining military strength".

Director Terrence Malick approaches this material in his characteristic visual language, creating a film about personal conviction and moral resistance.

(A Hidden Life) Germany/USA 2019, FSK 12, 174 min. Director: Terrence Malick. Starring: August Diehl, Valerie Pachner, Maria Simon, Tobias Moretti, Bruno Ganz and others.

The film series is a collaboration between Museumsquartier Osnabrück, Lagerhalle e. V., and Filmfest Osnabrück.
