A house by a lake on the outskirts of Berlin becomes the setting for a hundred years of German history. Its inhabitants live through the Weimar Republic, the Third Reich, the war, the GDR, reunification, and the years that followed - carrying their dreams, longings, fears and hopes, their moments of happiness, displacement, exile and the search for identity.
