The Paul-Ott organ, built in 1966 at St. Jacobi Church in Göttingen, celebrates its 60th anniversary with a gala concert as part of the 28th International St. Jacobi Organ Days. The instrument features four manuals and 4,806 pipes, making it one of the largest organs in Lower Saxony.

Munich organist Angela Metzger performs the evening's main work: Joseph Jongen's Symphonie concertante op. 81 for organ and orchestra (1926/27). Before that, Samuel Barber's Toccata festiva op. 36 (1960) will be heard, a piece from the same era as the organ itself.

The Göttingen Symphony Orchestra under Stefan Kordes completes the programme with two orchestral scherzos: Paul Dukas' "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (L'Apprenti sorcier, 1897) after Goethe and Camille Saint-Saëns' Danse macabre op. 40 (1874).
