Reading and Conversation with Dorit David: Lichtgier — Dominikanerkloster Prenzlau, Prenzlau

The Uckermark becomes the backdrop for a tangled family story spanning East and West, right and left, light and darkness.

In mid-February, a retired chemistry teacher is found dead in his burned-out garden shed by Lake Ucker. The Prenzlau police see no evidence of murder - though arson seems obvious and the lakeside property is a coveted prize for investors. The deceased leaves three adult children in western Germany who want to look more closely. Especially the youngest daughter, Peggy, has doubts when it emerges that her father apparently bequeathed his estate to an unknown younger woman: Ida Rutenberg. The search leads to a property management office in Magdeburg, then to Poland - and suddenly an esoteric commune comes into view.

Library director Josephine Borth speaks with Uckermark native Dorit David about her novel set in Prenzlau, about writing and her life as an author. Dorit David also reads excerpts from the crime novel.
