The sea is a great collective mirror. Thousands of rivers, streams and rivulets flow into it, dancing their way, circling stones, undermining structures. Waters are dammed until they leap over obstacles or tear down barriers. Even a trickle carries something unstoppable. We see ourselves in it, liquefied. Water is the oldest of futuristic mirrors.

Dancer and choreographer Fernanda Costa seeks new self-determined images for Black women in "Caminhos das Águas - Unstoppable Flow". White binary thinking divides the world into opposites and opposing values - an order that shapes and devalues until self-images become worthless. Together with three Black dancers, Costa works on liquefaction: of categories, movements, mirror images - and on a changed relationship between inside and outside. After all, we are water, at least mostly. Perhaps the body is a state of matter like ice and steam, and like them poses a threat to static structures.

The piece is part of the dance series "How I Become, How I Want to Be" at Ballhaus Naunynstraße, in which three Black choreographers seek inspiration, solidarity and connections to strengthen self-determined Black femininities. It is Fernanda Costa's choreographic debut at Ballhaus Naunynstraße.

A production by Kultursprünge at Ballhaus Naunynstraße gemeinnützige GmbH. The original production was created as part of the dance series "How I Become, How I Want to Be", supported by funds from the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt of Berlin and the Hauptstadtkulturfonds.
