Organ Concert: The Queen Congratulates!
Auferstehungskirche, Fürth, Germany
The Resurrection Church in Fürth, idyllically situated in the city park and one of the most renowned neoclassical architectural monuments of the city, celebrates its 200th anniversary on October 15, 2026. On this jubilee day, Sirka Schwartz-Uppendieck lets the organ as the "Queen of Instruments" personally congratulate - with works spanning 200 years of musical history.
The programme features: Fanny Mendelssohn (Prelude in F Major), Max Reger (Introduction and Passacaglia in D Minor), César Franck (Chorale in A Minor), Mélanie Bonis ("Cantabile"), Olivier Messiaen ("Transports de joie" from "L'Ascension"), Heinz Wunderlich ("Allegro con fuoco"), Dorothea Hofmann ("Auferstehung"), and Henri Mulet ("Tu es petra" from "Esquisses byzantines"). Michael Herrschel provides historical context through narrative commentary.
Sirka Schwartz-Uppendieck works as an organist, pianist, and music researcher specializing in organ romanticism, contemporary music, and works by women composers. She studied in Hamburg and Lübeck with Heinz Wunderlich, Eberhard Lauer, and Conrad Hansen; masterclasses brought her to Martin Behrmann, André Isoir, Günther Kaunzinger, Daniel Roth, and Gerd Wachowski. In 2011 she received the title "Director of Church Music"; in 2014 she won the Fürth Cultural Special Prize. As founder and director of the Fürth Women Composers Concerts, she has presented over 450 works by women from all periods and is the premiere interpreter of more than 100 pieces - including works by Horst Lohse, Dorothee Eberhardt, Uwe Strübing, Dorothea Hofmann, Tina Ternes, Yulim Kim, and Lorenz Trottmann.
Together with Michael Herrschel, she directs the biographical concert series "Komponistinnentage" and the festival "Komponistinnensommer" in Fürth.
