Black Dog Groove Society blends classic Hammond jazz with funk and soul. The quartet's second studio album, "Dog Dance", finds them at their best: punchy original compositions, a tight interplay of saxophone, guitar, organ and drums - and a joy of playing that's immediately contagious.

The creative core is Katharina Maschmeyer and Nils Pollheide, whose earlier KA MA Quartet made the ZEIT's best-of list. They're joined by Cologne-based organist Dirk Schaadt and drummer Hardy Fischötter, who has played with Larry Carlton and Susan Weinert, among others.
