Bodo Wartke - Antigone — Theaterhaus, Stuttgart
Description was written before the event

Following his production of "King Oedipus", Bodo Wartke returns to the stage with a second Sophocles tragedy. Together with his long-time stage partner Melanie Haupt, he plays every role in the piece through rapid character switches, with few props and a deliberately sparse set.

Like its predecessor, Antigone is written entirely in rhyme, in contemporary language, and laced with pop-culture references throughout. In his adaptation, Wartke turns his attention to human limitation, the failure to resolve conflict, and how that very failure shapes us - all handled with humour and respect, without stripping the play of its tragedy.

Text & music: Bodo Wartke | Direction: Sven Schütze | Dramaturgy: Carmen Kalisch
