Altes Land - A Play Based on the Novel by Dörte Hansen

Five-year-old Vera, mocked as a "Polish child", grows up on a fruit farm in the Altes Land, where she fled with her mother from East Prussia in 1945. Throughout her life she feels like a stranger in the large farmhouse - yet cannot let it go. Sixty years later, her niece Anne suddenly appears at the door: with her young son, having fled Hamburg, a life she has grown tired of, and a man who betrays her.

Vera and Anne are essentially strangers to each other - two generations, two completely different life paths. And yet both women discover they have more in common than they realized. With a sharp eye and dry wit, Dörte Hansen tells the story of two loners who unexpectedly find what they never sought: a family.
